The Dudley Council event, run in association with Black Country Radio, celebrated the work of service men and women past and present.

Entertainment for all the family including vintage fairground rides, Punch and Judy shows and stalls were on offer and the sunny warm weather added to the event’s festival feel.

The crowds were treated to performances by Victory Gal Melissa and Pete’s War Time Show, the spectacular Beating Retreat, led by RAF Cosford and The Band of the Mercian Regiment, as well as a huge display of historic military vehicles.

The Mayor of Dudley presented six veterans with their military badges and medals as part of the military service during the event. Councillor David Stanley, Mayor of Dudley, said:

Today’s event was simply fantastic and my personal thanks goes out to all those who have put so much work into making it such a huge success.

Families turned out in their thousands to enjoy this wonderful day out but also took the time to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by those who have served and those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces.

It was very moving to meet with some of the veterans, hearing about their dedication and service, and a complete honour to present six of them with their badges and medals today.
