Families from across Quarry Bank have enjoyed in a special mini beasts and fun event at Stevens Park today.

Popular children’s entertainer Dippy attending the park in Quarry Bank, which is managed by Dudley Council and was recently given a Green Flag award, as part of the event.

The site has seen almost £2million of investment through the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery funded works over the last three years, with the local authority working closely with Friends of Stevens Park, Emily Jordan Foundation Project and other local community organisations.

Work has included the restoration and extension of Tintern House as well as new heritage interpretation, access to the memorial garden and footpaths, and the money has enabled charity and training projects and events to take place at the park.

It is also one of two sites to recently have outdoor chess tables installed, which was funded through the Levelling Up Parks Fund from central government following a successful grant application from Dudley Council.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “It was a pleasure to join the family fun event at Stevens Park today and it is plain to see how events such as this one are having a very positive impact in the local community.

“We have seen transformative restoration and investment at the park, and we are hugely proud that it was selected for Heritage Lottery funding and subsequently Green Flag status.

“I would like to thank the Emily Jordan Foundation Projects, the Friends group and other local volunteers and community groups for everything they continue to do for the park, without their dedication this would not be possible.”
