Police update on Stourbridge murder investigation

Coventry Street in Stourbridge Town Centre where the incident took place

The police investigation into the murder of a teenage boy in Stourbridge on Saturday evening is continuing at pace.

Two teenage boys and a man in his 20s who were arrested have been released under investigation today as Police continue to examine CCTV from Coventry Street, where it appears there was a confrontation before the 16-year-old from Bartley Green was stabbed.

The victim was able to escape in a silver Toyota C-HR and was driven to Orchard Close in Rowley Regis, where an ambulance was called. Sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three people in custody were arrested close by, and officers have recovered the car for forensic examination. Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from the force homicide unit, said:

“Although we are in the early stages of our investigation, we have made significant progress. I would still like to hear from anyone who has any information about the events of yesterday evening.

"We are trying to understand the motive for this attack and the smallest piece of information could be crucial.

“We have specialist officers with the boy’s family, who have received terrible news and are understandably distraught. Our thoughts are with them.”
