Register to vote in upcoming by-election in Brockmoor and Pensnett

Brockmoor and Pensnett residents are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote if they want to have their say in the by-election next month.

Voters will be heading to the polls on December 19 to choose a new ward councillor after former Councillor, Judy Foster stepped down as an elected member earlier this month.

Residents in the ward have until December 3 to register to vote, which can be done online. People need to have one of the approved forms of ID if they want to vote at a polling station.

It includes a driving licence, passport and other documents. Anyone who does not have an approved form of ID needs to apply for a free voter authority certificate by 5pm on December 11.

People can also apply for a postal vote by 5pm on December 4, which does not require ID to vote.

The deadline for proxy applications is 5pm on December 11.

Balvinder Heran, interim chief executive and elections returning officer, said, "This by-election is not far away so there is not long for people to make sure they are registered to vote.

"If they are not registered, they cannot have their say in this election. There’s lots of useful information on our website about this election and I would encourage people to find out more."
