Residents encouraged to choose approved traders

Walsall residents are being encouraged to use a trusted approved trader scheme when looking for businesses to carry out work in their homes.

Walsall Council has partnered with the ‘No Rogue Traders Here’ scheme, giving residents access to a directory of local businesses that have been independently assessed against a range of quality and professional standards. 

The scheme aims to protect residents from rogue traders while supporting reputable local businesses that demonstrate high standards of customer service, professionalism and reliability. 

Before being approved, businesses undergo identity and bankruptcy checks, attend a face-to-face meeting, have relevant qualifications verified, hold appropriate insurance and, where required, a valid waste carrier licence.  

Councillor Ian Benton, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene and Enforcement at Walsall Council, said, "Choosing someone to carry out work on your home is an important decision, but unfortunately rogue traders continue to target residents and can leave people out of pocket through poor workmanship or scams. 

"By partnering with the ‘No Rogue Traders Here’ scheme, we're making it easier for residents to find businesses that have been independently vetted and meet high professional standards, while also recognising the many honest, reputable traders operating across Walsall. 

"I'd encourage residents to use the scheme whenever they're looking for home improvement or repair work, and I'd also encourage eligible local businesses to sign up and demonstrate their commitment to quality and customer service."

Reputable businesses operating in Walsall can also apply to join the scheme, allowing customers to find them through the approved trader directory and providing independent recognition of their professional standards.
