Residents warned after spate of calls from bogus police officer

Black Country residents are being warned after a series of calls were received across the borough from a female claiming to be a police officer working from Halesowen police station.

A statement was issued on the force's email bulletin, confirming investigations were underway to find the culprit and reminding people not to give personal details unless they're sure who the caller is. PCSO, Zac Green, said:

"Any officer will state their name and collar number when calling you and, if you don't answer, will leave you an extension number to dial when you call back.

"If you do receive a call from a female stating they're from Halesowen Police station, make sure you ask for their collar number and extension number. Then hang up and call the station yourself.

"We will never ask for your bank account details or any information regarding your personal banking arrangements. If you receive a call of this nature, hang up and dial 101 immediately."

Anyone with any queries is asked to call police on 101 or use the webchat facility at west-midlands.police.uk.
