Resurfacing works are part of Brierley Hill regeneration

People who live, work and shop in Brierley Hill are being reminded that resurfacing works are taking place in the town centre next month.

Dudley Council is writing to residents and businesses in the area to inform them of the plans, as part of the town’s multi-million-pound revamp.

Roads to be resurfaced are Brierley Hill High Street, Mill Street, Cottage Street and Pearson Street. There will also be works to parts of Dudley Road, Bank Street, Level Street, Moor Street and Little Cottage Street.

The resurfacing work will begin on Tuesday 2 April is expected to run for around three weeks.

The work will be carried out during the evening and overnight between 7pm and 5am the next morning.

The affected roads will have phased closures, with appropriate diversions and road signage to be in place as works are carried out.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader and cabinet member for economic delivery, said: “Brierley Hill high street has had significant investment over the last 12 months, and the resurfacing works taking place in April form part of realising our exciting vision for the town’s future.

“Work is also currently underway at Brierley Hill market and we are reminding everyone to come and support their local town with businesses open as normal.”

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environment, said: “I would like to thank residents, businesses, and visitors for their patience as we undertake this important work.

“The resurfacing will take place during evenings and overnight, when there is less traffic in the area, but resident access to frontages will be maintained wherever it is safe to do so.

“We are asking people not to park on the carriageway when traffic cones are in place advising of no parking as this could delay works.”

Brierley Hill is receiving £10million of investment from the Future High Streets Fund bid, which has been awarded by central Government for key transformation works including improving connectivity and integration, refurbishments to the library, the recent reopening of the public toilets and enabling works to improve the look and feel of the High Street.

The town is also benefitting from £2.2million of funding via the High Streets Heritage Action Zone, which has so far seen improvements made to the War Memorial on Church Street, a series of building projects and several public realm improvements.
