Sandwell Council to hold by-election

A by-election will be held in Wednesbury South ward on October 27th following a former councillor stepping down leaving one of the ward’s three seats vacant.

Former councillor, Kirat Singh resigned in August this year from the seat he won as a Labour candidate in May 2021. The council has been advised that Mr Singh has secured a new job that is politically restricted, which meant he could not continue in his role.

Polling cards will be delivered to voters in the ward from today and six polling stations will be used for the vote. Nominations for candidates must be made to the council by 4pm on Friday 30th September.

Anyone in the Wednesbury South ward who isn’t registered to vote needs to register by midnight on Tuesday 11th October at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

For those that already have a postal vote in places, postal votes will be sent out from Monday 10th October and must be returned by 10pm on Thursday 27th October. If you would like to vote by post and you have not previously applied, applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 12th October.
