A new youth-led sustainable fashion initiative is launching in Wolverhampton this year, giving secondary school students the chance to take part in workshops, upcycling sessions and a live fashion showcase.
Delivered by Wolverhampton-based sustainable fashion organisation, Reinvntd CIC, the project, ‘Future Threads,’ has received funding support through the Save the Children Young People Climate Fund.
The initiative will work with up to six Wolverhampton secondary schools between July and October 2026, engaging more than 100 young people in workshops exploring the environmental impact of fast fashion, textile waste, overconsumption, and climate change.
Students will then work in small groups to transform pre-loved clothing into original upcycled fashion pieces using creative repair, redesign and embellishment techniques.
The project will culminate in a public youth sustainable fashion show and catwalk event on Saturday 10th October 2026 at the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton city centre, where schools will present their final garments and climate messages to the wider community.
The initiative is being supported by Wolverhampton BID, helping bring together schools, businesses and the wider community to celebrate youth creativity, climate action and sustainable fashion in the heart of the city.
Founder of Reinvntd CIC, Maya Patel, said: “Young people care deeply about climate change, but many tell us they don’t know how to take action in a practical and creative way.
"This project gives them the opportunity to learn, design, create and use their voices through fashion. We want this to feel exciting, empowering and youth-led while also helping students understand the global impact of the fashion industry and how small changes can make a difference.”
The programme has been designed to align with curriculum areas including Art & Design, Design Technology and PSHE, while also supporting schools with enrichment, creativity, careers education and personal development priorities.
Participating schools will receive:
- Fully funded climate and sustainable fashion workshops
- All materials and resources provided
- Hands-on upcycling sessions delivered in school
- Opportunity to showcase student work publicly
- Potential access to creative industry opportunities and prizes
Reinvntd CIC is now calling for Wolverhampton secondary schools to register their interest in participating, as well as community partners, volunteers and sustainable fashion advocates to get involved. THey're also looking for local businesses and organisations to sponsor or support the event.
Schools interested in taking part are encouraged to register their interest before Friday 19 June. This will allow us adequate time for planning, workshop scheduling and student preparation before the summer break.
Interested parties should email info@reinvntd.com for more information.
