Scrutiny to discuss £1 billion of borough investment

An ambitious regeneration programme that is expected to see £1 billion of investment in Dudley borough will be discussed at Dudley Council’s scrutiny meeting next week.

Dudley town centre is a hive of exciting regeneration activity, with many large projects currently underway. Work includes the development of the brand-new leisure centre, the expansion of the Metro line between Brierley Hill and Wednesbury to run through the town, the installation of the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre, construction of The Black Country and Marches Institute of Technology and improvements at the Black Country Living Museum.

The successful Future High Streets Fund bid for Brierley Hill was recently announced, which will see £10 million of investment to the town.

Dudley council is also submitting a £25 million bid to Government under the Towns Fund Bid for a University Park in Dudley. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration, said:

"This is our time to grow and build and I’m delighted that scrutiny will be looking closely at some of the fantastic regeneration work we are delivering with combined authority funding.

"We have a great number of exciting projects already underway and we continue to drive forward a number of well-developed pipeline projects for Dudley borough."
