Sedgley welcomes new supermarket

A new Asda supermarket was opened in Sedgley yesterday by the Mayor of Dudley.

Councillor Dave Tyler dropped by this morning to cut the ribbon and declare the High Holborn Road supermarket open for business.

Eighty new jobs have been created as a result of Asda taking on the former Co-op store.

Asda, which invested £9.6m ito transform the store, has also kept on the 70 people previously employed by Co-op.

Cllr Tyler (pictured below) took to Twitter to praise the supermarket giant for the jobs boost and "a superb opening", adding: "Thanks Asda for being at the heart of Sedgley community."

Liz Godhead, deputy store manager, said: “We’re thrilled to finally unveil our transformed store to the shoppers of Sedgley.

“The team, which is made up of faces locals will know from the former Co-op and brand new colleagues, is excited to welcome the town and to showcase everything we’ve got to offer.”

The store will open 7am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
