Steeleye Span celebrate 50th anniversary with Dudley date

Evergreen folk-rock band Steeleye Span will stop off in Dudley next month as part of a nationwide tour to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary.

The evening at Dudley Town Hall on Wednesday October 12 will see the six-piece band spanning their vast back catalogue, performing songs from albums in the 1970s right up to their latest albums in the 21st century.

The band have had two top 40 singles, with All Around My Hat reaching number five in 1975, and two top 40 albums. A few tickets are still available, and can be booked online at boroughhalls.co.uk. Rupert Knowlden, borough halls manager, said:

"Steeleye Span were real pioneers of the early folk rock movement. They were largely responsible for taking folk music out of the small clubs and into bigger venues and international tours.

"This show offers a unique opportunity to hear all of their best work over the past 50 years with original vocalist Maddy Prior still behind the mic, and I would urge people to snap up the last few tickets."

Tickets can also be booked over the phone by calling the box office on 01384 812 812.
