Still time to nominate deserving youngsters for awards

Young people who have achieved and contributed in their community can still be nominated for this year’s Dudley Youth Awards.

The annual ceremony, which is organised by Dudley Youth Council with the support of Dudley Council’s youth service, will take place on Friday 26th April at Dudley College.

Now in its 14th year, the event recognises and celebrates the achievement and contribution of young people aged 11 to 19, or up to 25 for young people with a disability. Any young person who lives, or is educated, in the borough can be put forward with nominations needed by Friday 15 February. These can be made online or by email. Councillor Sue Ridney, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

"Dudley Council is delighted to support Dudley Youth Awards, which celebrates the incredible energy, talent and compassion of our young people.

"I would encourage people to come forward with their nominations so that we can officially thank and mark the great work that is going on all across the borough.”

There are eight categories including creative arts, sport, environment and contribution to school or further education. There are also two inspiration awards for extraordinary young people. A group award for community, charity and voluntary work and a final category for inspirational adults for people who have made a real difference to the lives of young people and nominations are made by young people themselves. Amman Ahmed, communications officer at Dudley Youth Council, said:

"The Dudley Youth Awards has been a great success in our borough for many years now and we are thankful to everyone who nominates and spreads the word of DYA. Now, we are calling on teachers, parents and our youth to nominate someone who is good at art, sport or even enjoys looking after nature.

"We are very fortunate to have Dudley College as our venue for this year’s Musical Themed Awards. If you would like to sponsor us in any way, be it raffle prizes, food or even stage decorations, please contact us by email.”
