Summer activity sessions back at Nine Locks Brierley Hill

Partners working with communities at the bike maintenance day last weekend

A range of scheduled outdoor sessions are returning to the Nine Locks and Delph Stables this summer.

Thanks to collaboration between Canal & River Trust, Dudley CVS, Active Black Country, Brierley Hill and Amblecote PCN and other organisations, free bike maintenance sessions and “Let’s Walk with a health professional” sessions will be scheduled at the popular Brierley Hill canalside spot over the summer months.

The first free bike maintenance and repair session took place last weekend and saw dozens of local people getting their bikes summer fit with the help of bike expert Fabio Henriques. Plans are being put into place to run further free bike maintenance and repair sessions with dates to be confirmed.

Brierley Hill ward councillor Adam Davies is working with the Canal & River Trust on ongoing projects at the Nine Locks. He said:

“It’s great to see more organisations getting involved and making good use of this beauty spot on our doorsteps. The warmer weather makes our local canals even nicer places to spend time.

"These sessions offer something different to encourage even more people to enjoy the health benefits of getting out there.”

On the back of a partnership between Brierley Hill and Amblecote Primary Care Network, Canal & River Trust, and Active Black Country, new ‘Let’s Walk with a health professional’ sessions will also be taking place along the canals. The 'Let's Walk' sessions last around an hour.

  • Thursday 8 June - Starts from the Tenth Lock Pub at 11.30am

Rachel Griffiths, Social Prescribing Link Worker, added: “Walk with a health professional is a new initiative that we hope to bring people together and reap the health and wellbeing benefits of being outdoors and meeting others, whilst exploring the local area.”
