A 16-year-old boy appeared before Dudley Magistrates yesterday, charged with the rape and murder of a teenage girl whose body was found in Wolverhampton.

14 year-old Viktorija Sokolova was found dead in the city’s West Park just before 7am On Thursday. A post mortem examination concluded she died from blunt force trauma to her head.

The 16 year-old boy from Wolverhampton, who can't be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

A second boy, aged 17, who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed pending further investigation.
