Tesco Donates Almost 20,000 Meals To Needy Black Country Folk

Tesco stores across Dudley have donated 19,966 meals to people in need thanks to its surplus food redistribution programme

The Community Food Connection, in partnership with FareShare FoodCloud, launched in February last year and is part of the supermarket giant's ongoing pledge to cut food waste.

At the end of each day, staff use an app to let charities and community groups know that unsold fruit, vegetables, bakery products, meat, dairy and ready meals is available to collect. The scheme is live in 900 Tesco stores and work is already underway to roll it out to a further 1,800 convenience stores. Matt Davies, CEO of Tesco UK, said:

“It’s great to see the difference Community Food Connection is making to providing people in need with meals from food that would otherwise go to waste and services they need.

"We know we still have more to do to achieve our target that no food safe for human consumption goes to waste in our UK operations, but this is important progress."
