Underage Driver Jailed For Killing Oldbury engineer

An underage driver who mowed down and killed an Oldbury telecoms engineer has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Newly-wed Matthew Harding was struck by the Citroen Picasso as he worked on a communications box at Woodcross, Wolverhampton in July last year.

The driver - who was 16 at the time and had taken his mother’s car without permission, fled the scene, but was later arrested.

The 17-year-old - who can’t be named for legal reasons - admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
