Vicar sparks unholy row over council prayer meeting

A Dudley vicar has defended speaking on the topic of the European Union referendum during prayers at a recent meeting of Dudley Council.

Angry councillors hit out at Canon Andrew Wickens, claiming he brought “politics into prayer” during his five minute reflection.

Reverend Wickens discussed the risks of encouraging anti-european sentiment within his prayers. 

Mr Wickens is the vicar at Saint Thomas and Top Church in Dudley.
