Walsall-based Olympian, Lucy Renshall has returned to international judo in impressive style, securing a bronze medal in the -63kg category at the Zagreb Grand Prix.
Training full-time on the British Judo World Class Performance Programme in Walsall and coaching at Stewart Judo Academy in Oldbury, Lucy is inspiring the next generation while competing at the highest level.
Ranked 34th in the world, she narrowly missed out on the semi-final but bounced back to claim bronze with an ippon in under two minutes. This follows her recent gold at the Sarajevo European Open, her first international competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking two consecutive international medals this year.
Reflecting on her return, Lucy said: "It’s great to be back on the IJF tour. After the Olympics, I took a year off the WCPP to focus on other things and take a break, but I was eager to get back into it!
"I’ve taken it step by step—UK competitions first, followed by a European Open—and I felt more than ready to step up onto the tour. Competing at the Zagreb Grand Prix and coming away with a medal shows me that all the hard work has paid off.
"I’m feeling better than ever and excited to see what’s next!"
Lucy will next compete at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 28th.
