West Midlands gets crafting for colourful Coronation

Schools and groups around the West Midlands are busy creating colourful bunting ready to display from May in the lead up to The King’s Coronation.

The King’s Bunting Project has been taken up by hundreds of groups keen to make an impressive colourful celebration for miles and miles across the region.

Schools, colleges, community groups , businesses and other organisations are crafting away in preparation and to make the historic event particularly spectacular for all to see.

The Lord-Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Sir John Crabtree OBE, is thrilled with the uptake. He said:

“The King’s Bunting Project has really taken off in the West Midlands.

“Many schools and groups have decided to use sustainable and environmentally friendly materials for the bunting to reflect The King’s interests so we are encouraging everyone to take up the challenge and do the same. “

Solihull Sixth Form College, one of the colleges in Summit Academy Trust, has been filmed creating the bunting. It was Vince Green who is involved in the Trust and Mark Mitchell, the head of Balsall Common Junior School, who had the idea to take up the project using sustainable materials.

If you want to join in The King’s Bunting Project simply register your organisation with the West Midlands Lieutenancy either on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #TheKingsBunting

After the Coronation on Saturday, many people are taking part in the Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May with communities holding street parties, meals and local celebrations to mark the Coronation of The King.

Then on Monday 8 May there is The Big Help Out where everyone has an opportunity to lend a hand and have a go at volunteering to make a difference to their community.

From March 20, The Big Help Out website will have a list of opportunities and you can now register for volunteering.

The West Midlands Lieutenancy is supporting these nationwide Coronation campaigns and is encouraging everyone to take part and enjoy the special occasion.
