Frankie Dettori in hospital after car flips over in crash

Horse racing great Frankie Dettori has been admitted to hospital after his car was hit from behind and flipped over.

The Italian's management said his car was struck on the rear passenger side by another vehicle, "causing it to spin and flip".

"Frankie was taken to hospital, where he was found to have sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb," said a statement from H Talent Management.

"His injuries are still being assessed, and he remains in hospital for further scans and observation."

The company said his focus was on "resting and recovering".

Dettori retired in February but was due to return to the saddle in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster in September.
