A man has been charged with murdering a pensioner who was found with fatal injuries at a flat in Northamptonshire.

Police said John Mills, 45, will appear at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with killing John Boyle, 71.

Mr Boyle, who had six children and 15 grandchildren, was found at the property in Leatherland Court, Kettering, on Saturday after reports of concern for his welfare.

Mills has also been charged with theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the incident.

Northamptonshire Police said a 42-year-old man and two women aged 27 and 35 had been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

In a tribute issued on Monday, Mr Boyle's family described him as a "gentle and generous soul whose love and kindness touched everyone who knew him".

His relatives said: "No words can capture the pain we feel, but we want everyone to remember him not for how he died, but for how he lived - with love, humility, and dedication to his family."
