A "dangerous" man being hunted by police after the murder of an 82-year-old woman may have been in an "agitated state" when last seen, police have said.

A manhunt is under way for Grant McKinnon, 30, following the death of Elizabeth Colligan.

The pensioner was found injured on Glasgow's Cardowan Road at about 4am on Saturday.

Emergency crews attended, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Extensive searches are ongoing to track down McKinnon, who was last seen in the area of the Carntyne street at the same time.

Police Scotland said enquiries suggest "he may have vital information" in connection with Ms Colligan's death.

McKinnon was earlier described as "dangerous", with those who spot him urged not to approach and to instead contact police or Crimestoppers immediately.

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Craig Brady said: "We have a dedicated team of officers working to find Grant McKinnon.

"Our enquiries suggest he may have been in an agitated state when last seen."

Police Scotland has launched Operation Duomo and set up an online portal for anyone with information to submit details directly to the inquiry team.

McKinnon is described as white, 6ft, slim, and with a shaved head.

When last seen he was wearing a black jacket with a red hood, or red hood lining, and blue jeans.

Superintendent Brady added: "Officers remain in the area and searches are being carried out in a number of areas, which include specialist resources from our dog unit.

"The public can approach officers if they have any concerns or call 101.

"We understand this police presence may be unsettling for the local community but please be assured we are doing everything we can to trace Grant.

"I am also appealing to the local community to assist us and asking anyone who knows where Grant is or where he might be to get in touch.

"The public should not approach him but contact us immediately on 999."
