Tate brothers to remain in jail for at least two more weeks ahead of next court appearance

Andrew and Tristan Tate are to remain in jail for at least two more weeks as they fight extradition to the UK on rape and sex trafficking charges.

On Monday, a federal court judge in Miami set 13 August as the date when the court will decide whether the controversial social media influencers should remain in custody or be released during the process to extradite them.

The brothers were not in court on Monday and have remained in jail since making a brief court appearance two days after their arrest on 18 July.

Lawyers for the pair said they wanted the US government to hand over documents that UK officials submitted to secure their arrest.

"They don't have anything but the accusations," lawyer Joseph McBride said after the hearing. "It's just their word against our word right now."

UK authorities have until mid-September to hand over all materials to the state department, US attorney Alejandra Lopez told the court.

British prosecutors announced earlier this month that they had brought 38 new charges against the pair, who have repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

Andrew, 39, was charged with seven further counts of rape and several trafficking and assault offences, while Tristan, 38, was charged with two counts of rape, sexual assault and trafficking offences.

Andrew was also charged with offences relating to "indecent images of a child and extreme pornography".

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had identified four additional alleged victims. It said the 38 additional charges, in addition to 21 existing charges, related to alleged offences between July 2010 and August 2017.

The brothers have previously denied allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking, claiming that violent and misogynistic statements had been taken out of context or were intended as jokes.

The extradition case is the latest chapter in the brothers' long-running international legal saga that has spanned the US, Britain and Romania.

The brothers, who are US and British citizens, built a social media empire promoting wealth, male dominance and misogyny, which made them among the world's most polarising internet personalities.

Arrested in Romania in 2022, they were accused of participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation, allegations they denied.
