UK set for highs of 27C towards bank holiday weekend

Sunshine and warmer temperatures are set to return to the UK next week after a spell of chilly weather.

Fine and dry conditions are expected to build towards the bank holiday weekend, with highs of 27C forecast for London on Friday.

Temperatures will increase by a few degrees every day across the country, leading to highs of 19-20C in southeast England on Wednesday, according to the Met Office.

Clouds are expected throughout most of the country on the same day, but they will clear by Thursday afternoon in all of England and parts of Scotland, including Edinburgh and Glasgow.

That's when temperatures in southeast England will reach 23-24C before hitting 26-27C on Friday, according to the forecaster.

Sky News weather presenter Jo Wheeler said temperatures could soar to a high of 30C.
