FIFA is looking to stage another major event in the US, with plans advancing for the launch of the women's Club World Cup despite the leadership crisis around Gianni Infantino, Sky News understands.
The tournament is due to launch in January 2028, but no venue has been confirmed yet.
Despite Qatar previously being linked with hosting, it's understood FIFA is in talks about the tournament being in the US.
It would be the third FIFA World Cup staged there during Donald Trump's second term.
The president handed out the trophy to Chelsea in 2025 at the first edition of the newly expanded men's Club World Cup - and to Spain at the final of the main men's national team World Cup in July.
Los Angeles is being lined up as a main venue for the 16-team women's Club World Cup.
The city also stages the Olympics in July 2028 and the FIFA-run women's competition is for senior players.
So there would be an issue with players participating in both tournaments given the additional workload beyond their domestic fixtures.
There are moves to limit players to one international tournament a year.
The Women's Super League in England has complained the Club World Cup is "at best inconvenient, and at worst, catastrophic" for domestic leagues given the mid-season disruption.
Arsenal would be expected to participate as a recent Champions League winner.
It was only this year that FIFA staged its first club competition for women's teams - the Champions Cup - having started men's versions in the last century.
