Dudley's former Post Office up for auction

Dudley is set for a housing boost when the town’s former Post Office goes under the hammer.

The Grade II listed building, which has the green light to be converted into 21 one-bedroom apartments, will be auctioned off by SDL Auctions Bigwood on Thursday, July 7.

With a total floor area of 15,000sq ft, the four-storey building on Wolverhampton Street - which ceased operating as a post office in 1986 - is offered with a guide price in excess of £525,000.

Gurpreet Bassi, partner and head of auctions Midlands, said: “Dudley’s old Post Office has been vacant for some considerable time and is now in a dilapidated state, but it is a building of great charm and huge potential.

“Planning permission for the redevelopment of the building was first sought in 2006 but progress has clearly been slow.

“We believe that the time is right for a sympathetic restoration and conversion into one bedroom apartments, which are much needed in the Dudley area, and can only help footfall in this central retail area.”

The auction will take place in the Holte Suite at Aston Villa FC at 10.30am.
