Family heartbroken after man drowns in Walsall canal

Police are continuing to investigate the tragic death of a man who was found in a Walsall canal last Friday.

Harry Steane, aged 26, was found behind an industrial estate on Brickyard Road, Aldridge which runs adjacent to Boatman’s Lane, at around 4.40pm.

A post-mortem examination determined that Harry died from drowning. Officers believe he may have taken drugs beforehand and are awaiting the results of toxicology to establish what substances he had consumed. A spokesperson for the force said:

"We’re aware there is lots of speculation around Harry’s death, and we’re asking people to stop. It’s incredibly distressing for Harry’s family at this very sad and difficult time.

"We’d ask anyone with any information about Harry’s death to contact us via Live Chat on our website or call 101 quoting log 2904 of 1 July.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, tell them what you know, not who you are."
