Man charged with Walsall grandmother’s murder

A man has been charged with stabbing his 74-year-old grandmother to death at her Walsall home.

Greg Irvin, from Walsall Wood, was charged yesterday by detectives with the murder of Anne James.

It’s alleged the 25-year-old attacked his grandmother with a knife at her home in Doveridge Place, Highgate, sometime between midday and 5pm on Wednesday 28 February. A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs James died as a result of multiple stab injuries. 

Unemployed Irvin − who was arrested the day after Mrs James’ body was discovered − is set to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today where the murder charge will be put to him. Detective Inspector Harry Harrison from West Midlands Police’s Homicide Team, said:

“This is a murder that has really shocked the local community and we have been working flat-out on the investigation to find the person responsible.

“Clearly bringing this murder charge is a significant step towards securing justice for Mrs James’ many friends and family."
