MMR pop-up clinics available across Dudley

Pop-up clinics will be held across the borough this month to offer the MMR vaccine to anyone who has missed one or both doses.

The measles, mumps and rubella clinics will be held at Mary Stevens Park on Saturday February 10 from 10am to 3pm and by the War Memorial, Lye on Tuesday February 13 from 9am to 2pm.

Clinics will also be held at Dudley Market Place on Friday February 16 from 9am to 2pm and at Somers Square, Halesowen on Saturday February 17 from 10am to 3pm.

The clinics are available to anyone over the age of one who has missed their vaccination. Children and young people must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the vaccine.

People are advised to book an appointment by calling Vaccination UK on 01384 431712, but they can turn up on the day. Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for public health, said:

“All children are invited to have their first MMR vaccine when they turn one and are given a second dose when they reach three years and four months of age.

“The vaccines give children vital protection against measles, a serious illness which can lead to severe health implications, as well as mumps and rubella.

“As we’re seeing a rapid rise in the number of measles cases in the West Midlands, compared to the rest of the country, we’re urging people to ensure their children are fully vaccinated.

“The clinics are open to all and there are other pop-up clinics being held across the Black Country which Dudley residents can access too. People are also able to contact their GP”

The MMR is safe and effective, and a gelatine free vaccine is available, if this is preferred. Parents and guardians are advised to bring their child’s red book, so vaccination status can be checked.
