MP calls for more support for small brewers

Dudley MP Ian Austin is calling for more support for small brewers ahead of the Autumn Budget and is meeting with the Director of Black Country Ales to show his support

Austin is meeting with Director, Angus McMeeking, to discuss Black Country Ales call for a freeze in beer duty and to ask for the Chancellor to implement a Small Brewer relief to help smaller brewers compete with larger companies.

The MP is a member of CAMRA and has worked hard to support local brewers, lobbied for duty cuts on beer in the past, help for ailing pubs and campaigned to have Black Country beers served in Parliament.

In 2014 he was officially recognised for his support for British beer industry by being awarded the Parliamentary Beer Champion award by the Campaign for Real Ale, the British Beer & Pub Association and the Society of Independent Brewers. Mr Austin said:

“The Black Country is home to some of the best brewers in Britain and some cracking pubs, so I’m a big fan of local beer – not just as a consumer, but because of the business and jobs these brilliant local companies provide.

“I will be showing my support for Black Country Ales and calling for the Chancellor to reform of the duty system to create a more level playing field for smaller breweries”
