Rehearsals begin for Stage Experience 2023 at The Alex

Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre is welcoming the eighteenth production of ‘Stage Experience’ with the premiere of Bring It On.

Eighty of the most talented rising stars of the Midlands area - who hail from Shropshire to Coventry, Stoke to Northampton and Birmingham to the Black Country - will start rehearsals from today for 13 days of intensive preparation before the curtain rises for four performances from Thursday 17 August to Saturday 19 August 2023.

With hundreds of applicants, all of whom are granted the chance to audition, the audition day comprised of over 150 eager amateur performers and technicians in April. From this incredibly busy day, the final 80 cohorts were selected by industry professionals to be the next tranche of West Midland’s future stars.

These young stars-in-the-making will devote their time, energy and focus to learning the ropes, treading the boards, and ultimately to give a quality, fully staged performance in a professional touring theatre venue, Birmingham’s beloved Alexandra Theatre. Brittany Jarman-Watson from Sedgley is playing the lead role of Danielle. She said:

"I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Stage Experience’s Bring It On this summer. I was last in Stage Experience in 2014 for Annie and to return is something very special. The auditions were so competitive, and the cast that made it through are delighted to have been given this opportunity to perform on The Alexandra stage.

"Bring It On will feature not only acting, singing and dancing but also cheerleading skills, so we’re all learning things we’ve never done before. We cannot wait to invite audiences to support our early careers in the performing arts and hope that you enjoy the show!

"We’ll give it everything we’ve got over the 13 day rehearsal period to make this a show to remember."

Co-Producers Hannah Whitfield and Victoria Ellery-Jones added: “The Alexandra Theatre is 122 years old, and for as long as the building has been nestled in the heart of Birmingham city centre, we have welcomed exceptional professional productions to entertain audiences across this city.

"As we now celebrate the eighteenth production of Stage Experience, we delight in organising this annual youth education programme, allowing young people from across the Midlands the chance to be involved in a full-scale show.

"Stage Experience is the highlight of our calendar, giving us the opportunity to involve the community in what we do. The Alex really comes alive with over 80 young people learning the ways of Theatreland!”
