A teenager suspected of making off from police in a stolen car during a pursuit in Dudley has been arrested after handing himself in at a police station.
The 18-year-old was arrested just before midday yesterday on suspicion of car theft and failing to stop for traffic officers. It follows a pursuit that started in Selbourne Road, Dixons Green, at 12.20pm on Wednesday when officers spotted a Ford Fiesta believed to be running on false plates.
They tracked the car for several minutes but were forced to abandon the pursuit in Marriott Road, Primrose Hill, when their patrol car suffered a gearbox issue.
Enquiries are on-going to trace another man, a passenger in the car, who is understood to have posted a video of the pursuit on social media. Detective Inspector Andy McHugh from West Midlands Police Force CID, said:
“This man has done the right thing in handing himself into police for questioning – and I would strongly urge the passenger to follow his lead and do the same thing.
“Enquiries are underway to locate the man and it is only a matter of time before he is arrested. Anyone with information they believe could help our investigation is urged to contact us on 101 or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers.”
The independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555111.
