Top class glass video celebrates Crystal Mile

The Red House Glass Cone has released a song and accompanying video about the famous Crystal Mile.

Featuring staff from the much-loved attraction it’s a joyous, folk-rock potted history of the area’s glass industry from the Huguenots to the modern day.

Three Glassmakers from the past take a jolly stroll along the Crystal Mile of today from the Stourbridge Glass Museum to Riverside House taking in the Red House Glass Cone, The Lace Guild, Ruskin Glass Centre, Red Lion Pub and the Bonded Warehouse.

Famous glass makers, locations, techniques and glass products are namedropped on the way, providing a compete history of the area. The authentic costumes were handmade by Tandem Crafts who are based at the Red House Glass Cone.

Councillor Paul Bradley, cabinet member for regeneration said: “This is such a fun, uplifting video and song. Who knew there were so many rhymes for Huguenot?

“It’s a fantastic celebration of the area’s glass making heritage, past and present and shows just how much pride and affection there is for the Glass Quarter.

"While the whole team came together to make this happen, it was the Cone’s very own Gez Hartland who penned, sang and drove the project and the fun they must all have had in the making of the video shines through.”

It was funded though UKSPF, with support from West Midlands Combined Authority, shot on location in the Glass Quarter, with the song recorded at Resonance and Spark media producing the video.

It has launched in time for English Tourism Week and the video can be viewed on the Red House Cone’s Facebook page and in the Cone’s visitor centre.

The Red House Cone will also be hosting a Spring Craft Fair on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March from 11-4 with free admission and the chance to browse a range of craft stalls.
