Vehicles checked in council operation

More than 50 vehicles were checked at Merry Hill last week in an enforcement activity for school transport providers.

Dudley Council led on the multi-agency operation, which saw the local authority working with partners to check school transport contractors are driving well maintained vehicles and meeting the standards expected of them.

A total of 51 vehicles were inspected, with drivers also asked to present evidence of having the correct license and insurance arrangements.

No major faults were found, with minor advice offered to a small number of the drivers.

Councillor Wayne Little, cabinet member for children and young People, said: “Safety of our children and young people is paramount, and we work to ensure our school transport contractors adhere to the stringent terms of our agreement.

“We undertook a multi-agency operation at Merry Hill, where we inspected 51 vehicles and drivers were asked to present information in order to ensure licence conditions were being met.”
