Body recovered from Nottinghamshire lake after teenage boy went missing while swimming

The body of a teenager has been recovered from a lake in Nottinghamshire after reports of a 16-year-old boy getting into difficulty while swimming.

Emergency services were called to Colwick Country Park, on the outskirts of Nottingham, at 5.20pm on Wednesday after reports of a youngster going missing in the water.

An underwater search team discovered the body just before 8pm.

The boy's family has been informed, Nottinghamshire Police said. The death is not being treated as suspicious but a file will be prepared for the coroner.

It comes amid higher-than-average temperatures across the UK this week.

Nottinghamshire Police's chief inspector David Mather said in a statement: "This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts are with this boy's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"While work is now under way to understand how the boy came into difficulty, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight this case as a reminder of the devastating consequences of entering open water - regardless of whether people do so deliberately or inadvertently."

Tom Staples, group manager of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, added: "We urge everyone to take care around lakes, rivers, and other natural bodies of water.

"Safety information and guidance are available on our website, and we encourage the public to familiarise themselves with it to help prevent future tragedies."
